Writers Studio

The 2010 Writers Studio offers master classes with ten accomplished writers in a wide range of genres, from poetry to kidlit, novels to memoirs, performance to playwriting. In an intimate seminar setting, some of the most successful authors writing in Canada today will speak directly and openly about particular points of writer’s craft, such as how to write convincing dialogue, how to structure story, how to find your writer’s voice. These are not workshops—the writers leading the master classes will not be reading participants’ work or workshopping individual pieces of writing. Instead, they offer their knowledge and experience, insights into the struggles and concerns common to all who works the page. Some may guide you through the exercises; others may tell war stories and share tips. All will bring their particular insider’s view of the questions that plague every writer, from beginner to bestseller.

Writers Studio master classes are 90 minutes in length and take place in the Martello Room on the 6th Floor of the Holiday Inn Kingston Waterfront. Tickets are $25 and enrollment is limited to 30 participants. The student master class (Y) is $10 and is available only to high school students. All tickets go on sale on August 12.
