Acclaimed poet, short fiction writer and novelist Aislinn Hunter has been described as fearless. Her doctorate from the University of Edinburgh focuses on material culture, on resonance and beloved objects. She’s also interested in Victorian writers and ephemera. She pursues these interests with consummate skill in her new novel, The World Before Us, about an archivist at a small London museum who searches the archives for scraps of information about a woman who disappeared from a Victorian asylum.

Her debut novel Stay, a Globe and Mail Top 100 book and shortlisted for the Amazon.ca First Novel award, examines the relationship between colonialism, globalization, and identity. The Globe and Mail writes that Aislinn “tackles the theme of time and all its implications–ever-changing and moving, elastic and stiff. She plunges us through history to the present and back again with ease.” Stay has been made into a feature film, for which Aislinn has garnered an IMDb listing.

Her short story collection, What’s Left Us, was a finalist for the Danuta Gleed Award and the ReLit Award. Her poetry, Into the Early Hours, was shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Prize and won the Gerald Lampert Award.

Aislinn hails from Belleville, Ontario, and currently lives with her spouse in Vancouver, British Columbia.
