00. Gunplay (After the Gun Goes Off)
September 23, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the DAN School of Drama and Music at Queen’s University in partnership with Kingston WritersFest for the international debut stage reading of Gunplay (After the Gun Goes Off).
When Darryl and his friend Niko get caught using a pellet gun in the alley beside an elementary school, it triggers an active shooter response, hitting Darryl with the full force of justice, political, and education systems and the court of public opinion. Gunplay, by Jennifer Walton, is the first prize 2021 winner of the Herman Voaden National Playwriting Competition. A talk-back with Jennifer and the cast will follow the live reading event.
About the Voaden Prize
This biennial, nation-wide, open competition, named to honour the Canadian pioneer playwright Herman Voaden is judged blind, meaning the judges select the Winners and Honourable Mentions without knowing the identity of the playwrights.
The competition is made possible by a generous bequest from Mr. Voaden’s estate. The award is dedicated to his memory and honors his goals to develop a distinctively Canadian art of the theatre and to encourage the writing of Canadian drama.
