7. The Long Term Crisis in LTC
September 23, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

One of the greatest crises brought to light during the COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly been the deplorable conditions that many of Canada’s long-term care residents find themselves living in. In this event, moderated by Ben Charland, Globe and Mail health reporter André Picard (Neglected No More: The Urgent Need to Improve the Lives of Canada’s Elders in the Wake of a Pandemic) and Moira Welsh (Happily Ever Older: Revolutionary Approaches to Long-Term Care), an investigative journalist with the Toronto Star, discuss the institutional shortfalls that need to be addressed including lack of funding, poor oversight, understaffing, and make the argument for proven, practical, and lasting changes to the state of care for Canada’s elders now.
André Picard is supported by Author Patrons Justin Connidis and Julia McArthur.
Moira Welsh is supported by Author Patrons Julie Leclerc and David O’Toole.
