21. WR: Choosing Your Words: What Diction and Naming Means *SOLD OUT*

September 28 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

*Individual tickets to this class are now SOLD OUT. Tickets are still available through the purchase of a Writers Retreat Package.

“Poems, novels, stories are built one word after another,” says poet Lorna Crozier. That sounds simple, but what goes into our choosing of which word we’ll use? Why “dolor” over “sadness”? Why “mutt” over “canine”? We’ll look at writers’ choices, from Yeats to Lise Gaston and do some writing of our own while we keep in mind this passage from Lewis Carroll: “Must a name mean something?” Alice asked doubtfully. “Of course, it must,” Humpty Dumpty said. “My name means the shape I am–and a good handsome shape it is, too.”
