November 29, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
On Tuesday, November 29th we are running our annual GivingTuesday fundraiser with the support of CanadaHelps.
We are so pleased to have local author and food writer Lindy Mechefske join us for a very special event featuring hand-selected recipes from her Taste Canada Award-Winning book Out of Old Ontario Kitchens.
Register for FREE (donations gratefully accepted), and prepare the recipes you’d like to try. Share photos of your successes (and failures) with us before the event and we’ll feature your work on our social media pages!
Then on GivingTuesday, join Lindy for a live chat about your culinary conquests and conundrums, followed by a conversation offering a window into the past, exploring the history of cooking in Ontario, from traditional bread recipes, to main course dishes, and finishing with some delicious desserts.
7:00 – 8:00 pm EDT
There’s s’more to come, so please consider donating to our GivingTuesday campaign and sharing our Facebook event with your friends!
Pick your favourite recipe from below and gouda luck!
One note regarding the “Baked Beans of Old Quebec” recipe – it calls for boiling the beans for 15-30 minutes, before cooking the beans in a slow oven for 7-9 hours. I would suggest boiling the dried beans for at least 30 minutes or until the beans are starting to soften (this will depend on who fresh or old they are – older beans take longer to soften) and then following the recipe and cooking the beans in a crockpot or slow cooker for 7-9 hours – rather than having the oven on for 7-9 hours! Crockpots were not around when this recipe first appeared. (The earliest version of a crockpot was thought to have been built in the 1940s but they were not in common use until the 1970s.)
