Alyssa Cooper was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario, and is currently living in Kingston with her partner, two cats, and a Boston Terrier. A wearer of many hats, Alyssa is an author, poet, and spoken word performer, as well as an artist and graphic designer.

First published in 2008, Alyssa is the author of two traditionally published novels — Salvation and Benjamin — and two poetry collections, Cold Breath of Life and Unlike Icarus. In 2014, she began to dabble in self-publishing, releasing a short story collection, Whispers, and a young adult novel, The Witches of Armour Hill.

Alyssa is an active member of the poetry and spoken word communities in Kingston, and is one of the featured performers/interview subjects in the documentary film Who is Bruce Kauffman? As well as being a regular performer in Kingston and Toronto, she currently holds executive positions in the Kingston Poetry Collective and the Kingston Youth Poetry Slam planning committee.
