When Colin Campbell went on a short business trip abroad, he returned home to discover his wife of many years had moved out. No explanations. No second chances. She was gone and wasn’t coming back. Shocked, Colin fell into a spiral of depression and loneliness.

Free Days with George: Learning Life’s Little Lessons from One Very Big Dog, Colin’s first book, is the uplifting, inspirational story of what came next. When a friend told Colin about a dog in need of rescue—a neglected 140-pound Newfoundland Landseer, a breed renowned for its friendly nature and remarkable swimming abilities—Colin adopted the traumatized dog.

The book tells the lively tale of how George went from being abandoned and homeless in cold, rural Canada to becoming a surfing champion and local celebrity on the sunny beaches of California. It’s also about an unlikely friendship: both man and dog were heartbroken and lacking trust, but together, they put the past behind them and embark on a life-altering, healing adventure that brings them back to life.

Colin has worked as a marketing executive in both the United States and Canada for the past twenty-four years. He has held senior roles with MacLaren McCann, MKTG and the National Hockey League Players’ Association. His syndicated radio show Junior Hockey Magazine has aired across Canada for the past twenty-four years.

Colin and George now live in downtown Toronto—but escape as often as possible to the beaches of California and Nova Scotia to get their surfing fix.
