Famous for her original experiments with form, Diane Schoemperlen has published four critically acclaimed books of short fiction and three novels, including In the Language of Love, Our Lady of the Lost and Found, and most recently, At a Loss for Words: A Post-Romantic Novel, which the National Post called “a laugh-out-loud anti-love letter. As Schoemperlen holds the mirror up to us, we can’t help but see that love is always archetypal and banal at the same time.”
Diane was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction with her story collection, Man of My Dreams. She won the coveted award for Forms of Devotion. The jury called it “a witty and brilliant collection of stories. The author’s delicate, playful approach to faith or the lack of it in our lives is the work of a major literary talent at the top of her craft. A virtuoso performance.”
Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Diane received the Marian Engel Award in 2008 for a body of work by a writer in mid-career from the Writers’ Trust of Canada.
Diane’s latest book, By the Book: Stories and Pictures–a book of stories illustrated with collages–will be launching at Kingston WritersFest.
