From Toronto, Joanne Page’s migratory path has meandered to Kingston, where she has worked variously as a mother, visual artist, newspaper columnist, associate editor of Quarry Magazine> and teacher of creative writing since 1986.

Author of three books of poetry, contributor to numerous anthologies, and editor of a book of essays by her close friend, Bronwen Wallace, entitled Arguments with the World, Joanne brings warmth and a penetrating intelligence to whatever she writes. Her work is imbued with “a grace and maturity that can only come from a patience borne through years of experience,” says Ottawa poet Rob McLennan.

“Rarely have I read an early collection so unfettered in its ambition and so fearless,” Governor General’s Award–winning author Stephanie Bolster says of Persuasion for a Mathematician, Joanne’s second book of poems.

Watermarks, Joanne’s most recent collection, was a finalist for the prestigious Trillium Book Award in 2009. These astonishing poems show Joanne “at the height of her powers,” says Molly Peacock. “She uses her characteristic wit, insouciant intelligence and wide-roaming interests to make worlds we can enter with delight.”
