“Writing came as a surprise for me,” says now-author and Radio-Canada concept editor Laurence Beaudoin-Masse. While working as a producer in the media industry, she had an idea for a TV show about an influencer’s behind-the-scenes life. While the pitch was turned down, she couldn’t get the idea out of her head and decided to turn to a different art form. “I discovered that I do love writing so much! I couldn’t imagine my life without it. It’s weird to me that this one thing I enjoy the most now was almost an accident.” The resulting novel, Suck it In and Smile (originally published as Rentrer son ventre et sourire) was a hit and inspired a soon-to-be-published sequel. Booklist calls it “a perfect crossover title,” saying “this unfiltered look at being a successful influencer strips away the glitz and glitter to show the emotional and physical tolls of fighting for demographics and followers.” Laurence would like to help girls who, like her, never feel like they measure up. She lives in Montreal, Quebec.
