When he’s not cooking, travelling the world to find the best lentil recipes, hosting television shows, or advocating for simple, sustainable home cooking, renowned chef Michael Smith writes bestselling cookbooks.
His latest, Make Ahead Meals: Over 100 Timesaving Recipes “is jam packed with 100 new recipes that are guaranteed to save you time in the kitchen when you need to get a meal on the table in a hurry,” Michael says.
To him, cooking is about deeper delights than simple Raspberry Red Cabbage or Apple Pie Rice. “Our food tastes best when we taste its story. When our cooking becomes personal, it grounds us to our community and connects us to life,” Michael writes.
Michael’s previous cookbook, Family Meals, his eighth, was a foodie bestseller. “Like all Canadian parents, Michael found himself looking for creative school lunches, quick and healthy weeknight dinners that would make mealtime fun for his kids, and delicious on-the-go snacks for the family,” wrote Parents Canada. “Beautiful full-colour photography and easy-to-follow instructions make this a must-have for any cookbook shelf.”
Michael, who emphasizes the joy of cooking in all his activities, is host of Chef Michael’s Kitchen, Chef Abroad and Chef at Home, broadcast on Food Network Canada, Global, and in more than 100 other countries.
And while he is a chef-at-large, his favourite role is being Dad, back home on Prince Edward Island with his wife Chastity and his children Gabe, Ariella, and Camille. Michael is an avid map collector, long-time windsurfer and novice kite sailor.
