In the world of book publishing, editors, though essential to the writer’s craft, rarely become household names. Phyllis Bruce is an exception, having made a name for herself helming not one, but two eponymous imprints at two of Canada’s largest publishing houses – spending twenty years at HarperCollins, and the past five at Simon & Schuster Canada.
Phyllis is a two-time winner of the Canadian Booksellers’ Association’s Editor of the Year Award. She received the Order of Canada for her contributions to Canadian publishing, and the International Visitors Programme’s Ivy Award, which honours individuals who have made substantial contributions to Canadian publishing.
Phyllis Bruce Books and Phyllis Bruce Editions have published a number of stellar authors, including Kingston WritersFest alumna Anna Porter, with whom she appears onstage this year, Helen Humphreys, Frances Itani, Dianne Warren, Charlotte Gray, and James Raffan.
Phyllis lives in Toronto.
